Gardenside Sister Portraits

I started photographing these wonderful sisters when the oldest was a senior in high school. Scroll back in time on my blog a bit and you’ll find both Ally’s and Regan’s senior portraits featured. A couple years after Regan’s graduation, their mom wanted some updated portraits of the two of them together. When we met in the late summer, the foliage was at it’s peak. Large, vivid green leaves and pops of colorful flowers surrounded us. It felt as though we had entered a tropical enclave in the heart of St. Louis. So as not to compete with the scenery, Ally and Regan wore simple outfits of denim and white with different silhouettes that give them a cohesive look without being too matchy-matchy.

I photographed a variety of portraits both candid and posed. For the individual portraits, I placed importance on a similar composition so that, if desired, the resulting prints could be displayed together in a symmetrical manner.

This session reminded me of the importance of capturing each stage of a child’s life, even as they enter adulthood and move beyond the traditional milestones. After seeing the results of this session, I’m inspired to take more time to photograph my own daughters together so that they can look back on their bond at different stages.
