Welcoming Baby Blue: Spring Maternity, Summer Newborn

Part I: The Maternity Session

The cherry blossoms were in full bloom at the St. Louis Art Museum where I met Nicole and Exley for their newborn session. This sweet couple is originally from Houston and, since leaving Texas, have lived in several cities. Not long ago they found their way to St. Louis where they are putting down roots and starting a family. For this reason, I thought it was extra special to commemorate the next chapter of their lives at this gorgeous Saint Louis landmark!

These two were a blast to get to know and so fun to photograph. They are naturals in front of the camera and Exley kept Nicole laughing the entire session! What really struck me was just how complimentary Exley was of his wife; well deserved no doubt, just look at her! It was evident that he was not only enthralled by her beauty and strength but ecstatic that she was soon to make him a father.

Part II: The Newborn Session

Several weeks after we all met for the maternity session, I traveled to Nicole and Exley’s home to meet Blue and document some of their first moments together as a family of three. Before I go any further, let me first give some major props to Nicole. She and her husband bought their home and completely renovated it based on her designs. She has a background in interior design that is obvious the second you walk in the door. The home is bathed in natural light, features architectural details that have been returned to their former glory, and is all brought together using a soft, cheerful color palette. I can’t imaging a more welcoming environment for a new baby.

Baby Blue was awake for his entire newborn session and was just the sweetest, most inquisitive little guy! He loved hearing his parents talk to him and even surprised us with a couple big smiles. Nicole ordered the photo of Blue curled up in her arms (above: bottom right) for her office which happens to be my favorite photo of the bunch. Frankly though, I would have trouble focusing on work with that sweet face framed right next to me!

I mean c’mon, just look at that sweet, smiling face!
